Brighton School House

Philosophy

The Brighton School House philosophy is “EVERY CHILD MATTERS”. Over the years the school has built on this philosophy and reaches out to every child who steps across its threshold.

The school believes that learning is a tripartite arrangement whereby the school, the parents and the children work together in order to bring the best possible experiences and learning outcomes to each and every child. School newsletters are published on a quarterly basis in order to keep parents involved and up-to-date with the events in the school.

Brighton School House is headed by a British expatriate and boasts a dedicated and experienced team of qualified Montessori teachers. With this strong and dedicated team Brighton School House aims to give every child the best possible start to their education.

Curriculum

Brighton is a self proclaimed Smart Pre School. Whilst it fully embraces the Montessori pedagogy and is equipped with original Montessori equipment, it is receptive to alternative materials and innovative approaches to learning and as such has fully adopted the British Jolly phonics as its English language reading and writing scheme. In line with this approach songs and rhymes are incorporated into the learning of Mathematics and Bahasa Malaysia this allows the child to have fun whilst they are in fact actually partaking in a learning activity. In line with the Smart school concept of a full and varied approach to education and learning Brighton offers all children the option of Mandarin classes, Swimming lessons, Gym class, Drama class, iclay modelling lessons and fun music and movement classes as well as Story time sessions.

The school year is divided into 2 semesters each having its own independent thematic project work which incorporates a field trip and guest speakers where appropriate.

Each year the school holds a sports day and a concert to enable the children to display their talents.

The school has also adopted Sahabat HUKM, a charitable body for child patients of HUKM who are dealing with life threatening health issues, and holds an annual fund raising event. This becomes a learning activity for the children as representatives of the charity spend time with the children and the children get involved by creating items which are later sold.

Environment

The school occupies a large bungalow on elevated land and has an extensive compound which translates into the study environment being cool and airy eliminating the need for the children to be in an air-conditioned environment. The school in line with the Montessori concept is a series of open areas with classrooms set up for the Preparatory children, this is to familiarise them with a primary school environment. The school has its own swimming pool, a children’s vegetable garden and is very proud of its pets’ corner which is used as a teaching tool as well as a playtime activity for the children.
