Sri Garden Kuala Lumpur

Sri Garden Kuala Lumpur is a private school near to the city centre and has a nearly twenty year history of quality in education, recently celebrated with the 5-Star Quality Standards for Private Education Institution (SKIPS) award by the Malaysia Ministry of Education. The school has been incorporating holistic and internationalisation in their activities for a number of years and now comes its next step in development: Sri Garden International (SGI).

SGI will open its doors in January 2011, and is currently receiving a lot of interest and applications. SGI will build upon the foundations of the private national curriculum school, and will offer a British based curriculum leading to IGCSE’s. This will be a natural progression of an internationalisation programme, which has been building for the last few years. It further extends the schools purpose statement to educate the youth of today to take their productive place as leaders in the global community

Central to the vision of Sri Garden are the three pillars of Academic Excellence, Physical Health and Development, and Character Building. SGI will extend this holistic approach to education, allowing students to follow an English based International curriculum that offers a balanced and holistic educational experience. “Real” world and global issues are developed through a programme called Six Dimensions, which highlights six key areas – social, cultural, economic, political, technological and learning – in lessons, to make them more relevant.

The International Curriculum puts the child at the centre of the learning process; “the main purpose of teaching is to help children learn”. This is quite a different approach to memorizing facts to get the highest exam grades. With deep understanding come the best exam grades that a child can achieve, and the ability to apply their knowledge in different situations.

IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year-olds, and is a gold standard education. It develops successful students, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, and equips them with invaluable skills for future life. These challenging courses enable students to learn more than facts. They encourage students to ask challenging questions and to develop intercultural understanding while maintaining a strong sense of their own identity and culture. The qualifications are recognised worldwide and can be used to enter pre-university courses in most institutions. This International Curriculum firmly puts a child in the centre of a global education, which will craft a truly international person, who is able to adapt and take on the many challenges of a fast changing world.

Sri Garden firmly believes that each child should be exposed to good character traits. The school has produced ‘Starfish’ programme that celebrates the exhibition of good character. Respect and caring, tolerance, integrity, excellence, passion and open communication are all part of the day to day life at the school. Together with this grounding in good Asian values, students still need to know about the country they live in. At SGI, the students will study Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin, and also have Malaysian History, Music, Culture and Geography integrated into the International themes and topics.

This ‘grounding’ in the Asian “box” together with the International Curriculum, and effective and stimulating teaching styles will give children the best of both worlds and will truly and successfully prepare them for the global community into which they will live, study and eventually have a career
